Migrate eRoom Notes to SharePoint Lists
eRoom notes are slightly different in SharePoint. In eRoom, notes can live independently of other objects, while in SharePoint, notes are actually SharePoint Discussions lists. There are three basic migration scenarios when migrating eRoom Notes. For more information on these scenarios please see the Links and Notes section of the Migrate an eRoom Container as a SharePoint List page in the Online Documentation.
Migrate eRoom Links to SharePoint Lists
eRoom links are slightly different then SharePoint links. In eRoom, links can live independently of other objects, while in SharePoint they live in SharePoint links lists. There are three basic migration scenarios when migrating eRoom Links. For more information on these scenarios please see the Links and Notes section of the Migrate an eRoom Container as a SharePoint List page in the Online Documentation.
Migrate eRoom Sub-Folders to SharePoint
Sub-folders will be migrated, when migrating eRoom content to a SharePoint site. Sub-folders will not be migrated when eRoom content is migrated to SharePoint lists or document libraries, but only in the case where the sub-folders are considered nested content for lists (i.e. the sub-folder exists within an eRoom list type). For more information on migrating sub-folders please see the Migrating Nested eRoom Content page in the Online Documentation.
Nested Content
Migration Manager for SharePoint - eRoom Edition has some limitations with regards to migrating "nested content." Nested content is basically a set of content within another object. The most common example of this in eRoom is when an eRoom list type is inside of another eRoom list type (for example, an eRoom calendar or database inside a eRoom discussion). In order to migrate any of these types of nested content the lower level list would need to be promoted to the same level as the top list it is in. This is done for two reasons: SharePoint list types can only be placed inside a SharePoint Site, and to help migrating users in keeping with SharePoint best practices. For more detailed information on nested content please see the Migrating Nested eRoom Content page in the Online Documentation.
User Mapping
User accounts, and metadata, can be mapped from eRoom to SharePoint during migration. These mappings can be manually set by users. Any mappings made are scoped to the root server level and will persist through any migration actions. For more information on user mappings please see the Mapping Users, Groups, and Permissions page in the Online Documentation.
Group Mapping
Groups can be mapped from eRoom to SharePoint during migration. These mappings can be manually set by users, and are scoped to the root server level of the migration, and will persist through any migration actions. For more information on group mappings please see the Mapping Users, Groups, and Permissions page in the Online Documentation.
Permissions
User and Group permissions can be migrated from eRoom to SharePoint. When migrated, a "best match" method is used to map the permissions across. These mappings are done automatically, and are scoped to the root server level so they will persist through any migration actions. For more information on permissions please see the Mapping Users, Groups, and Permissions page in the Online Documentation.
Comprehensive Logging of all Migrations
Log files are created and stored for all migrations. These files give a breakdown of all actions that took place during a migration.
Link Correction
Links for images will be corrected after migration with Migration Manager for SharePoint - eRoom Edition.
Command Line Execution
Command Line execution is possible with SMM. Whether the options are selected in the UI or through the command line, the running of the actual migration can be done through the command line. This allows for the migrations to be done "in batch" and scheduled.
Validate SharePoint URL Length for eRoom Containers
Potential SharePoint URLs can be checked for eRoom containers. The URLs can be checked for pasting the eRoom content as a site, or a document library. The check looks at the allowed SharePoint URL length and compares it to the potential URL length (the check acts as if a migration would be successful), and returns the results. For more information on nested content please see the Check SharePoint URL Length for eRoom Container page in the Online Documentation.
All Interactions with SharePoint are remote
All standard interactions with SharePoint are done remotely, however, if the Metalogix Extensions Web Service is used, then some interactions with SharePoint are done through the object model, which is local through the SharePoint site.
Migrate User Metadata
You can copy documents and many types of list items to a target machine that does not have the Metalogix service installed, but the four edit information fields will not be preserved. The four edit information fields are:
Created: The date and time that the list item was created.
Modified: The date and time that the list item was last modified.
Created By: The user who created the list item.
Modified By: The user who last modified the list item.
Automated SharePoint Site Hierarchy Creation
Creates a base for a SharePoint site hierarchy, then migrates content into SharePoint. This hierarchy can then be built upon, giving a greater range and flexibility to any site creation actions within SharePoint.
