As SharePoint becomes more business-critical, there is a need to respond to restore requests for lost or deleted content more quickly. Metalogix Selective Restore Manager is a simple, cost-effective solution that allows you to rapidly search, find and granularly restore SharePoint content from the item level up to a site collection and everything in between. You can restore content from native SQL Server backups quickly without the overhead of a lengthy SharePoint recovery farm setup. Selective Restore Manager allows you to avoid costly proprietary SharePoint backup products and be prepared to restore your lost or deleted content using a simple, intuitive user interface.
Metalogix recently released Selective Restore Manager 5.0. This release includes the following new features:
SharePoint Workflow Restoration
Selective Restore Manager will restore SharePoint workflow associations and instances. Note that restored instances are for historical reference only; if the workflow was in progress and needs to continue, it will need to be restarted. The original workflow definitions need to be in place within the site templates.
Performance Improvements
SharePoint administrators who restore sites or site collections can see improved performance in restore operations. The new Resource Utilization Setting allows administrators to maximize these operations on the hardware dedicated to restore.

Knight Frank LLC, a multinational real estate firm based in London and New York, is an example of a company that used Metalogix Selective Restore Manager. The company had made the deicison to upgrade from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010. However, the SharePoint environment had expanded well past 700GB on a single content database and the bloated database was causing backup problems as well as making single document restores nearly impossible to achieve.
“We needed a simplified solution to aid in our migration from SharePoint 2007 to 2010 while also enabling us to restore various items from the backup files,” said James White, technical architect, Knight Frank.
With Metalogix Selective Restore Manager, Knight Frank was able to simplify the process of restoring individual documents and list items stored in native SharePoint backups without needing to rebuild the entire product database or deploy a temporary SharePoint recovery farm. Instead, Knight Frank can connect directly to its native SQL Server backup files and navigate them as though they were live SharePoint sites.
The company used Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint to perform the upgrade and Metalogix StoragePoint for SharePoint storage optimization.
“Metalogix offered a comprehensive suite of software solutions to help us reduce our content database size and migrate our content to the new SharePoint version while also enabling us to restore individual files and documents for seamless data protection,” said White.
