Looking Into The SharePoint Crystal Ball: What's The Future of Your Content?

At SharePoint Conference 2011, Jeff Teper, Corporate Vice President, Office Business Platform, Microsoft Business Division, firmly announced that SharePoint is now the de facto standard for enterprise content management. During his keynote address, Teper revealed that SharePoint is now enterprise-class as 75% of enterprises have already moved to SharePoint and another 12% are planning to do so this year, figures backed by our own research with Enterprise Strategy Group.

Due to this increased adoption, we have also seen dramatic increases in the amount of content that is now being stored in SharePoint. While databases were once being measured in gigabytes, there are now being measured in terabytes. In fact, Teper demonstrated a live failover of a SharePoint environment that held 14TB of content as part of his keynote address at SharePoint Conference 2011.

The questions about SharePoint have shifted from “Will it become the standard?” to “How will we manage this content?” The future of SharePoint will be focused on how organizations meet the challenges associated with rapidly growing content to best maximize their SharePoint investments and create fully-optimized environments for end users to increase productivity and collaboration.

On Tuesday, February 7, Metalogix and Innovative-e, Inc. teamed up to present a panel discussion with leading SharePoint community experts on the future of SharePoint and what it means for organizations in 2012 and beyond. You can listen to the recording here: The SharePoint Crystal Ball: What’s the Future of Your Content.

The panel included:

  • Stephen Cawood, Microsoft SharePoint MVP, Metalogix Director of Product Marketing
  • Dux Raymond Sy, PMP, Microsoft MVP and Innovative-e, Inc. Managing Partner
  • Joel Oleson, Microsoft SharePoint Expert, SharePoint Collaboration Solutions Manager at LDS Church
  • Spencer Harbar, Microsoft SharePoint MVP, Microsoft Certified Architect for SharePoint 2010

During the hour-long discussion, the panel of experts addressed the best ways to make sure your SharePoint environment and content are ready for the future. Among the topics that will be discussed will be how to handle SharePoint content growth, how does the cloud fit in with SharePoint deployments and how to migrate content management systems, such as eRoom, Google Apps and Documentum, and file shares in SharePoint.
