Migrate an eRoom Container as a SharePoint List

All eRoom list container types can be copied to their equivalent SharePoint list types. This topic describes how the eRoom list migration works.

List Types

The following table shows how eRoom list containers map to SharePoint list types when migrated, using SharePoint Migration Manager (SMM) for eRoom:

General List Migration

The list migration process is much the same for each eRoom list type. The steps are as follows:

  1. In SMM's Explorer View, navigate to the eRoom list to be migrated.

  2. Select the eRoom object, right-click, and choose the Copy eRoom Container... option. Alternately, the specific eRoom object type (i.e. a poll, database, note, etc.) can be selected, right-click, and choose Copy eRoom [object].

  3. Next, navigate to the desired target SharePoint location, within a SharePoint connection.

  4. Select the target SharePoint site, right-click, and select Paste eRoom [object]. This will display the appropriate options dialog. The object name will vary, depending on the list type.

  5. Set the copy options as required, and click OK.

  6. As the migration runs, a status dialog box will show the action progress. To get a detailed view of the operations being performed, click the Details button. After the action has completed a status message will be displayed in the dialog indicating the number of completions, and, if any, warnings and failures. A copy of this logging will be created and lists in the Job List section. For more information on SharePoint Migration manager for eRoom logging, please see the section on Log Files

  7. After the migration completes, and the log has been reviewed, click Close to close the status dialog.

The result of this operation will be to produce a SharePoint list, with content equivalent to the source eRoom content, and an optional sub-folder structure that contains all of the source eRoom documents. Any eRoom objects other than documents and containing folders will not be copied when this operation. The log of the migration operation will include entries for every non-document object that was not copied. For more information on logging, please see the section on Log Files

Attachments

All eRoom list types support items with attachments. This is not the case in SharePoint. Wherever one of the above mappings is made to a SharePoint type that does not support attachments, the attachments are instead moved to a Document Library at the same level as the target SharePoint container. The document library for attachments gets the same name as the related SharePoint list, with the word Attachments appended. For example, migrating a discussion list named Dev Team Discussion in eRoom, that includes discussion items that have attachments, will result in two SharePoint lists. The first list will be a Discussion List called Dev Team Discussion. The second is a Document Library called Dev Team Discussion Attachments. Links between list items and Attachment document library items are maintained.

Links and Notes - A Special Case

eRoom links and notes are a special case of list migration because the eRoom and SharePoint handling of these objects are slightly different. In eRoom, links and notes live independently within eRoom containers of any type and not in a specific list. In SharePoint, links and notes must be contained in Links Lists or Discussion Boards, respectively. For this reason, SMM handles these objects differently than other eRoom list types. There are three cases to consider.
