All eRoom list container types can be copied to their equivalent SharePoint list types. This topic describes how the eRoom list migration works.
The following table shows how eRoom list containers map to SharePoint list types when migrated, using SharePoint Migration Manager (SMM) for eRoom:
| eRoom Container Type | SharePoint List Type |
| Calendar | Calendar |
| Discussion List | Discussion Board |
| Links | Link List |
| Notes | Discussion Board |
| Poll | Survey |
| Database | Custom List |
The list migration process is much the same for each eRoom list type. The steps are as follows:
In SMM's Explorer View, navigate to the eRoom list to be migrated.
Select the eRoom object, right-click, and choose the Copy eRoom Container... option. Alternately, the specific eRoom object type (i.e. a poll, database, note, etc.) can be selected, right-click, and choose Copy eRoom [object].
Next, navigate to the desired target SharePoint location, within a SharePoint connection.
Select the target SharePoint site, right-click, and select Paste eRoom [object]. This will display the appropriate options dialog. The object name will vary, depending on the list type.
Set the copy options as required, and click OK.
As the migration runs, a status dialog box will show the action progress. To get a detailed view of the operations being performed, click the Details button. After the action has completed a status message will be displayed in the dialog indicating the number of completions, and, if any, warnings and failures. A copy of this logging will be created and lists in the Job List section. For more information on SharePoint Migration manager for eRoom logging, please see the section on Log Files
After the migration completes, and the log has been reviewed, click Close to close the status dialog.
The result of this operation will be to produce a SharePoint list, with content equivalent to the source eRoom content, and an optional sub-folder structure that contains all of the source eRoom documents. Any eRoom objects other than documents and containing folders will not be copied when this operation. The log of the migration operation will include entries for every non-document object that was not copied. For more information on logging, please see the section on Log Files
All eRoom list types support items with attachments. This is not the case in SharePoint. Wherever one of the above mappings is made to a SharePoint type that does not support attachments, the attachments are instead moved to a Document Library at the same level as the target SharePoint container. The document library for attachments gets the same name as the related SharePoint list, with the word Attachments appended. For example, migrating a discussion list named Dev Team Discussion in eRoom, that includes discussion items that have attachments, will result in two SharePoint lists. The first list will be a Discussion List called Dev Team Discussion. The second is a Document Library called Dev Team Discussion Attachments. Links between list items and Attachment document library items are maintained.
The standard migration options for migrating eRoom content into SharePoint lists are:
Overwrite existing document with same name - This option will overwrite any existing attachments that have the same name
Skip current document if document with same name exists - This option will allow the Migration Manager to skip copying any documents that already exist on the target, if they have the same name.
Rename current document with unique name - This option allows for the current document to be renamed, using a unique name for the new file.
Replace all invalid SharePoint characters in name with "_" - This option replaces any invalid SharePoint characters that are found during the migration with a character of the users choice. By default this character is set as "_" but this can be changed.
Include versions - This option allows for item versions to be copied, for any attachment (that has versions) that is copied.
Update existing libraries to enable versioning - If versions are being included in the attachment copy, then this option will allow for any existing libraries to have versions enabled on it (if it doesn't already).
Map user metadata - When this check-box option is selected user and groups will be migrated to SharePoint, along with their metadata. The ellipsis ("...") button to the right can also be clicked to open the eRoom Users to SharePoint Users Option mapping dialog, where users can set any desired mappings for users and groups. For more information on this option please see the section on Mapping Users, Groups, and Permissions.
Migrate permissions - This option determines whether permissions, which is equivalent to "Rights" in eRoom access control, are mapped over from eRoom to SharePoint. The mappings for permissions are done automatically using a "best match" method. For more information on this option please see the section for Mapping Users, Groups, and Permissions.

eRoom links and notes are a special case of list migration because the eRoom and SharePoint handling of these objects are slightly different. In eRoom, links and notes live independently within eRoom containers of any type and not in a specific list. In SharePoint, links and notes must be contained in Links Lists or Discussion Boards, respectively. For this reason, SMM handles these objects differently than other eRoom list types. There are three cases to consider.
If a single note or link object (item) is selected, copied, and migrated to SharePoint, the results will be slightly different for each of these items. If a single eRoom note item is copied and migrated into a SharePoint site (this is the only target that will work for a copy of this level), SMM for eRoom will initiate a Discussion list copy, and will copy the note into the discussion list. If a single eRoom link item is copied it can only be migrated into a SharePoint Links list (this is the only target that will work for a copy of this level).
If a single note or link container is selected, copied, and migrated to SharePoint, this will result in the automatic creation of a SharePoint list of the appropriate type, called Notes or Links depending on what was migrated. The individual migrated eRoom item will be placed within the auto-generated SharePoint list.
In the event that an entire eRoom containing links and notes is migrated, the resulting SharePoint site will automatically have a Notes and/or Links list created, at the appropriate place(s) in the hierarchy. The individual notes and links in the source eRoom container will be placed in these auto-generated lists.
The following options are available when migrating eRoom calendars to SharePoint:
Overwrite existing calendar - This option determines whether to overwrite calendars on the target SharePoint site, in the case where a calendar with the same name as the source eRoom calendar already exists.
Update existing calendar events - If the overwrite option is not selected, this option enables the ability to update calendar events in existing SharePoint calendars, based on details in source eRoom calendar events. Calendar events from source to target are updated only if both the event and containing calendar name are the same.
Include attachments - This option determines whether attachments on eRoom calendar events will be migrated to a target SharePoint attachments document library specific to the corresponding target SharePoint calendar. Clicking the ellipsis button (...) will open the attachment options dialog. Please see the section on this page for Attachments for more information on the available options. Please note that some attachment copy options are not available for migration of Calendar attachments.

The following options are available when migrating eRoom databases to SharePoint custom lists:
Overwrite existing eRoom database - This option determines whether to overwrite custom lists on the target SharePoint site, in the case where a list with the same name as the source eRoom database already exists.
Include attachments - This option determines whether attachments on eRoom database items will be migrated to a target SharePoint attachments document library specific to the corresponding target SharePoint custom list. Clicking the ellipsis button (...) will open the attachment options dialog. Please see the section on this page for Attachments for more information on the available options.
Migrate images into image library - This option determines whether images in eRoom databases will be migrated into a SharePoint Picture Library. A field is also available to change (or enter) a name for the SharePoint picture library that will be created.

The following options are available when migrating eRoom discussions to SharePoint custom lists:
Overwrite existing discussions - This option determines whether to overwrite custom lists (discussion boards) on the target SharePoint site, in the case where a list with the same name as the source eRoom discussion already exists.
Include comments - This option determines if all the comments that are under the discussion heading will be migrated into the SharePoint Discussion board or not. If this option is selected, then all the comments under the discussion heading will be migrated into the appropriate discussion. If this option is not selected, then only the discussion heading topic (with the original heading comment) will be migrated, and no other comments will be migrated to SharePoint.
Include attachments - This option determines whether attachments on eRoom discussion list items will be migrated to a target SharePoint attachments document library specific to the corresponding target SharePoint custom list. Clicking the ellipsis button (...) will open the attachment options dialog. Please see the section on this page for Attachments for more information on the available options.

The following options are available when migrating eRoom Polls to SharePoint Surveys:
Overwrite existing polls - If this option is selected, then any SharePoint surveys that exist with the same name as the migrating poll will be overwritten.
Include ballots - If this option is selected, then Poll ballots, which are equivalent to SharePoint Survey votes, will be included in the migration. Each ballot response will map to a corresponding list item in the SharePoint survey.
Include write in's - If this option is selected, then any eRoom write-in's are migrated to the SharePoint survey. Write-in's are custom answers or answers that are different from the available options. Write in answers are mapped into the vote list items.
Include attachments - This option determines whether attachments on eRoom poll items will be migrated to a target SharePoint attachments document library specific to the corresponding target SharePoint custom list. Clicking the ellipsis button (...) will open the attachment options dialog. Please see the section on this page for Attachments for more information on the available options.
