Overview

The bug outlined below is affected only on messages archived from an Exchange 2010 SP1 system. This issue is not seen on any other build of exchange, including Exchange 2010 pre-SP1.

This bug only affects items that have HTML Text and images. This issue is compounded for customers who use HTML Signatures that also have Images in them, as this could affect every outbound and internal correspondence.

The bug is such that when an item is taken from an Exchange 2010 SP1 system and saved into our HSM as a .msg file, that file cannot be properly opened and displays a blank message body.

The blank message body can be seen in Outlook by double clicking on an archived message.

**Please note that previewing a message in Outlook is unaffected by this bug.**

Also, this issue can be seen in Archive Web. This issue will give the customers an inability to validate an E-discovery or records request.

**Please note that exporting the contents of a search will still display the correct information, it is just the Archive Web component will not be able to read the body of the message.**

Symptom

If you receive a message in Exchange 2010 pre SP2 Rollup 1 that has HTML Text and an Image the PR_RTF_IN_SYNC property of the message will be set to false. When this property is set to False Outlook Clients are not able to interface with the body of the message and as such the body will be displayed blank.

This property is saved when a message is archived into the HSM of Archive Manager.

All messages archived with this flag will have to be restored to Exchange and re-archived.

Solution

The issue is resolved in Rollup 1 for Exchange 2010 SP2. However this solution is only for messages moving forward from that time.
